Meet Duckens Petit-Maitre

Candidate for State Representative: 14th Suffolk

Duckens Petit-Maitre, the youngest of twelve siblings, was born and raised in a Christian family in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His parents had owned small businesses such as a grocery store and a pawnshop and after the overthrow of Duvalier in 1986, they lost everything. Two years after Duckens’ birth his mother became a single parent. Of necessity, she also became the ‘father figure’ to him and his eleven siblings.
In search of a better life, in 1992 his mother came to the United States so she could support her children who remained in Haiti. Left behind, Duckens struggled just to find the “tap-tap change” for school bus fare. In 2001, he joined his mother in the United States and set about getting a better education. After graduating from West-Roxbury High School, he attended “Year Up,” a professional studies program, and received a certificate in Business, and Information Technology. Motivated to help others, Duckens decided to pursue a career in legal studies obtaining an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Bunker Hill Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from Newbury College.

Duckens has been an active member of our Roslindale, Mattapan and Hyde Park communities for nearly two decades. He is also a devoted member of the First Haitian Baptist Church of Boston operated by Senior Pastor Laroche. One of his proudest moments in high school was being part of the NJROTC and raising the American flag every Memorial Day to honor our veterans.

In his work life, Duckens has always sought opportunities to support the public. He’s a Bus Operator for the MBTA, a City of Boston Constable, and a Notary Public. He has volunteered for many political campaigns working for President Barack Obama, the late Mayor Thomas Menino, former candidate Jean-Claude Sanon, former State Representative Marie St. Fleur, and former District 5 City Councilor Robert Consalvo. Duckens Petit-Maitre is fully prepared to lead and he’s committed to working with other elected officials to help bring about the critical changes our communities so desperately require and deserve.
